The dry grass holds its color like memory, amber and still. Two giraffes pass through it shoulder to shoulder, their mosaic hides catching the low light in alternating shadow and warmth. There is no urgency in the image, only accord. The eye follows their gaze outward, past the edge of the frame, into whatever they have already decided to trust. This is what Dirk Collins has spent 30 years finding in the field: the moment before language, where attention itself becomes a kind of knowing.
